Old Municipal Stadium in Enthusiastic Soccer Town
Urawa was the capital city of Saitama Prefecture until it was merged into the city of Saitama in 2001.
Although there is Lotte Urawa Field, a home to the Chiba Lotte Marines of Eastern League, Urawa district is widely known as "Soccer Town", because of the Urawa Red Diamonds, the professional association football club of J.League Division 1, and some competitive local high school soccer teams.
Urawa local government and businesses have enthusiastically promoted the creation of "Soccer Town", and did well to build a large fan base of the Red Diamonds.
Saitama Municipal Urawa Stadium is located in the residential area of Urawa district, and also within 15 minutes walking distance to Komaba Stadium, a home stadium of the Urawa Reds.
Urawa Stadium is usually used for amateur baseball. The Marines and the Swallows host some regular season games for Eastern League at this old poor stadium.
