New Spring Training Home of The Carp
Built in 1973, Okinawa Municipal Baseball Stadium was one of the oldest ballparks in Okinawa Prefecture. The Hiroshima Toyo Carp have been training here since 1982, until City of Okinawa decided to replace the stadium.
The construction began after 2012 spring training, and lasted over two years. The stadium was completely rebuilt at the site of former Municipal Stadium. Lighting towers, LED video screen and sunshade over the backstop seating area were newly installed.
The naming rights was sold to Koza Shinkin Bank, Okinawa-based financial institution, with five-year contract at annual 6.5 million JPY.
The Carp played their first spring training game at Koza Shinkin Stadium on a sunny day with chilly wind, the 22th February 2014. I attended the game with the crowd of 12,178.
The ballpark is located at Koza Sports Park, and usually used for amateur baseball games, such as high school baseball tournament.
